Has anyone here chosen NOT to vaccinate their child(ren)?

I am not looking for a debate or argument. :) Just curious about others' choices.
My DS (7 next week) IS current on his vaccinations, but we have chosen to do no more. He has had several reactions along the way and the most recent one was the worst. Plus, the more we have researched, the more it scares us to have done what he already have.

With our foster boys, we have to. Since we are not their legal guardian (the state is), we don't have a choice in it. Once we adopt a foster boy, we plan to stop.

That's interesting that the state requires it for foster children, but parents can decide on their own not to have their children vaccinated.

Personally, I have mixed feelings on vaccinations, but I plan on vaccinating my baby. Many doctors I know have vaccinated their own children, and I trust them. Plus, I was vaccinated as a chilld and I (knock on wood) am very healthy. I don't want to risk more harm to my child by not have the injections.

With that said, I personally refuse to get injections, such as a flu shot. So I guess I'm a little two-faced in that regard. I do worry about potential problems associated with children's vaccinations, such as Autism. However, I believe the increased #s of autism over the year might have to do with the other medications the parents are taking...nobody seems to talk about the higher # of chemicals and radiation we expose ourselves to that weren't around in the 70s and 80s, when I had my vaccinations (such as cell phones, etc.)
Both of my children are vaccinated, except for the flu vaccine(the one that changes every year) and the chickenpox vaccine. I fully intend on finding someone who's kids have had the chickenpox and then taking my kids over for a playdate. :) That may sound cruel to make a child go through that, but #1 I don't trust the vaccine to give a lasting immunity and #2 actually getting the chickenpox creates a better immunity to it later in life.
I agree. I have had students (I'm a preschool teacher) who have been vaccinated and have STILL gotten chickenpox, just a milder form. So...what was the point of the chickenpox vaccine?? So it was "as" bad? I, too, would rather do a chickenpox party.

Both my girls had all their vaccines before this whole scare came about. Now with my son, he is up to date on vaccines. BUT, I refused to have the multiple shots given all at once. Although, according to my Dr. "some states are only getting the vaccines with lower or no doses of mercury" . (our being on of them , NC) Now whether he was just blowing smoke up my butt or what, that's what he said. I still didn't want them altogether. Oh, and the one they give them, just after they are born, we didn't do. They are going to get them eventually, why does it have to be the second they are born?

You raised some good points. Doctors tend to give too many too soon and too close together.

Just in case any one is curious or is thinking about whether or not to continue giving vaccines to themselves or their children, here is a list of fillers that are used in vaccines. Not all are in every vaccine, BUT at least some of these ARE in every vaccine:
* aluminum hydroxide

* aluminum phosphate

* ammonium sulfate

* amphotericin B

* animal tissues: pig blood, horse blood, rabbit brain,

* dog kidney, monkey kidney,

* chick embryo, chicken egg, duck egg

* calf (bovine) serum

* betapropiolactone

* fetal bovine serum

* formaldehyde

* formalin

* gelatin

* glycerol

* human diploid cells (originating from human aborted fetal tissue)

* hydrolized gelatin

* mercury thimerosol (thimerosal, Merthiolate(r))

* monosodium glutamate (MSG)

* neomycin

* neomycin sulfate

* phenol red indicator

* phenoxyethanol (antifreeze)

* potassium diphosphate

* potassium monophosphate

* polymyxin B

* polysorbate 20

* polysorbate 80

* porcine (pig) pancreatic hydrolysate of casein

* residual MRC5 proteins

* sorbitol

* tri(n)butylphosphate,

* VERO cells, a continuous line of monkey kidney cells, and

* washed sheep red blood
Yes, I do believe my state allows for "religious" reasons only, too. So, how do you get "around" that... Thanks for the book info! :)

I absolutely agree! YOU are the parent and you can make the choice better than you Doctor can! YOU have to feel comfortable with the choice you make for your family. Could you please share more info about the Dr. Sears schedule?

Drew is almost up to date on his vaccines, he's missing one the HiB. We get our shots at the state health clinic (since we only have to pay 5.00 for the visit, and Brians' insurance doesn't cover all the shots).

Our Dr wants Drew to have it and it annoys me that I get the run around at the clinic, saying the shortage is low. When Drew goes to the doctor for his 2 year checkup, then I'll get the shot.

All our shots have been spread out over time (our vet is now doing this too, and I know that's not the point of this discussion).

The first time Drew had to get his shots, I was so scared. Not because of the pain he'll feel, but about the chance of "losing" him to autism. Knock on wood, he is fine and I hope he'll always stay that way.
I chose to vaccinate my girls. I wouldn't think not too.
We do delayed and selective vax's. My youngest won't be done with hers until probably 6 or 7. And we never get the chicken pox, flu, or rotavirus vaxes, and unless they perfect Gerdasil, my girls won't get that either.

Nope - no reason for me to inundate their little systems with 5 or 6 injections at once. We take our time.

My blog has Dr. Sears alternative schedule. My doctor actually stretched this out much MUCH longer. There's absolutely NO medical reason they have to have them all at once, like the CDC "recommends" (Keep in mind, it is JUST a recommendation - not what HAS to be done! Any doc that says it has to be that way needs to go back to medical school, because they are directly contradicting the CDC.).
