Has anyone here chosen NOT to vaccinate their child(ren)?

I am not looking for a debate or argument. :) Just curious about others' choices.
My DS (7 next week) IS current on his vaccinations, but we have chosen to do no more. He has had several reactions along the way and the most recent one was the worst. Plus, the more we have researched, the more it scares us to have done what he already have.

With our foster boys, we have to. Since we are not their legal guardian (the state is), we don't have a choice in it. Once we adopt a foster boy, we plan to stop.

My doctor does not charge a co-pay if it's just a vax visit - we pop in to see the nurse for 30 seconds and leave. My insurance company also has no problem paying the monthly claims instead of the less frequent ones.
How are parents who choose to not vaccinate putting others at risk?

Becky, I think the myth and bandwagon mentality is that a child who, for example, isn't vax'ed against chicken pox, must be carrying this disease around, dripping it from every orifice on their body, and therefore infecting others who cross their path.

There can be a school of educated thought about this, however. If your child is vaxed, what are you worried about? :)

Sadly, the medical community and the scaremongering media have perpetuated scare tactics like the flu scares and made everyone scramble to get these shots. The flu shot is a crap-shoot. They have no idea what strain might be coming, and there are THOUSANDS of them. The shot protects against very few of them. Chicken pox? It's still in the human trial phase! They're already figuring out that boosters are required, and whoops - maybe it doesn't protect them as well as they thought. And Gardisil? Again, still in the human guinea pig stage. No thank you again. And I will be ordering the MMR in separate shots directly from Merck to be sent to my doc.

People need to take control of their health care - and their child's care. You can't blindly follow a doctor's orders simply because he has a piece of paper on the wall. He isn't God, he isn't always right, he isn't always up to date, and he doesn't always know what's best for YOU and YOUR FAMILY.
AMEN! I totally agree with this post!!!!! Thanks for the explanation! I agree with the thought process of:
"If your child is vaxed, what are you worried about? :)"

We don't do any vaccinations until the kids are one, and then we are selective. We don't do any vax that is "live" (flu, chicken pox, MMR), any that have preservatives, or any "combination shots". Our middle daughter has febrile seizures, so we haven't vax'd her at all (since fevers give her seizures and vaccinations give her fevers).

I don't think there is a right or wrong answer about vaccinations, there are pros and cons to every plan, it's just about what each parent thinks is best for their children.
That is a great way of thinking! I really like this post!!!

Becky,
We vaccinate but on a delayed schedule. We're following the Dr Sears delayed schedule as well as opting out to get some vaccines completely. It's really a hard, complicated topic! Have you read the Dr Sears book? I found it very helpful!

I wrote a blog post on vaccines about what I'm doing. If you want to read it, it's here- I hope it helps and best of luck in your decision!! :)
Thanks! I have not read the Dr. Sears book but after so many of you mentioning it, I think I might need to!!!

Becky, I have the schedule on my blog, taken right from his book. But remember, that's just a guideline. My doctor actually spread them out further than that! http://geriatricmama.wordpress.com/alternative-vaccination-schedule/

Now that I think about it, my youngest babe is about 20 months and hasn't been in since 9 months old. I will get the rest of her shots (except flu, chicken pox, rota, and gardasil) whenever I feel like it. It's no hurry. :)
I didn't. I feel that as a parent I am to protect my child from any disease. I have had all mine and I am perfectly fine same with my hubby. I don't see the point in not doing it. Anything can happen and any disease can come back. There could be any kind of out break so were preparing by vaccinating.
I have an update. We were on a delayed/selective schedule, but we have now STOPPED all vaccinations. After doing more research and reading up with a Dr. Tenpenny, I now see how poisonous and dangerous vaxes are; my fourth baby had selective/delayed vaxes until 8 months, and that's the last ones she had (she's 21 months now). No way.

I thank God - literally on my knees - every single day that my other three children are alive, healthy, and okay. To read what these poisons are and what they do scared me enough that I am staying 10 miles away from them. And the flu shot - WOWZA. If people knew about that, they'd run for the hills too!

So we are now in the ranks of no vaccinations here. I wish I'd known 16 years ago what I know now.
