I've taken on a freelance writing job for when our baby is born so I can be home with him. I know it's good to be on a schedule-- a flexible schedule that is-- but what other advice can you offer to work-at-home moms?

Hey Kayla,

After two kids and being a work-at-home-mom for about three years, I can say that it's been very rewarding and challenging at the same time.

What my experience has been is that working at home depends on your child. But it's safe to say that the first few months, you may need to put off work to get adjusted to your new schedule and to get to know your baby. Some babies sleep during the day but are up at night or vice versa.
My second baby is 6 months old and the first is three year old, so I find myself busy with them during the day and get my work done at night. It took us a while for me to start working again (I started when Kira turned 5 months and started sleeping longer than 30 min at the time). My biggest challenge is that she would not sleep more than 30 min at the time once I put her down. Now she sleeps up to 1 to 1 and 1/2 hours when I put her down.
On days that my three year old goes to day care, I sleep in during the day as much as possible with her and work most of the night.
If your baby is a sleeper (like my first was), it may be more easy to work around his/her sleeping schedule.
